(UPDATED: February 13, 10:15am EST)
Thanks to Abraham Lora for alerting me about American Airlines $1 fares (+$324 in taxes) to fly one-way from Los Angeles to Copenhagen via LHR in the summer. There are plenty of dates and seats available so I booked tickets for me and my wife. I wanted to book 10 and do mileage runs but my schedule won’t allow for it!
Here’s a screenshot of the itinerary and fare!
There’s also fares are available from New York City (EWR and JFK). See screenshot below.
For those asking about return tickets you have a few options:
-Buy a one-way on another airline like Norwegian (see screenshot below)
-If you don’t want to fly Norwegian you can follow these tips to finding a cheap airfare (especially setting a fare alert).
-Or use miles. Using miles probably won’t open up until the last minute (3 days before) but they usually do.
Johnny, I live in L.A., if I take this trip, how do I get back home? Will this price be good for coming back?
I didn’t even search prices coming home! Haven’t had time but even if it’s full price it’s still a deal. I’m planning on using miles.
Use the fare calendar for Norwegian Air Shuttle; I booked the deal as listed above for $325 leaving July 24 LAX to CPH. I used the fare calendar on Norwegian and got a one way, nonstop flight CPH to LAX on August 12 for $425. Norwegian flies non-stop from LAX to LGW, CPH, Oslo and Stockholm. One of them are bound to have a good fare to return back to LAX. Fare calendar that out!
You da man!
The return ticket is really expensive. I search on Google Flights, and I found for about $2100. Maybe, I can use Norwegian or that Iceland airline. Thanks for sharing.
Go to Johnny’s booking – put in RT – BA going and coming back on different airlines still under $1,000 RT.
Need to put in one-way
Thanks for the tip Johnny. We have a Traveling Professor tour departing on June 7. I got the $326 per person to CPH from EWR. We can get back (and splurge on a premium seat) on Norwegian or IcelandAir.
Steve
As much as I looked I couldn’t find the deal. =/ I guess I missed it…..
It’s still available! I just checked! LAX/SFO and NYC
There happens to be a reverse routing business class round trip deal CPH – LAX via LHR for $2k through October which makes for a great deal if you want to tie in 2 or 3 Europe trips. Final leg home, as Johnny suggests use miles for your last one way trip home (or Norwegian non stops from CPH or London Gatwick).
Also, American has ridiculously open upgrade availability all summer, must be due to their launching 2 daily non stops.

Yup, good find and its still out there.
You can also fly Air Berlin from say JFK; they have the same fare too.
Don’t see it. Must have missed it?
Still there. Need to put in one-way to CPH
This would be amazing if the Great Dane fares get reinstated!
Johnny, thank you for this great tip. Because of you I bought a ticket from LA to Copenhagen for $325, paid $65 to upgrade to the extra leg space and found a return flight non-stop from London to LA for 30,000 miles on AA and taxes of $369. I have always dreamed of going to Europe and thanks to you I will be going to celebrate my 50th birthday in June. We we are thinking of going Copenhagen to Amsterdam to Paris to London…. Can’t thank you enough:) (By the way I purchased my ticket on 2/16/15 and by the next day the same tickets were all over $3ooo to Copenhagen…I got in just in time).
