American Airlines and Porter Airlines have announced a new codeshare partnership that will give travelers more options when flying between the United States and Canada.

American Airlines and Porter Airlines announce partnership.Effective today, customers can book eligible codeshare flights on aa.com, American’s mobile app or flyporter.com. Under the agreement, the carriers will place their codes on select routes across each other’s networks, with further expansion planned in the coming months.

For American customers, the partnership means greater access to Porter’s Canadian destinations, including Edmonton, Halifax, Ottawa, Victoria and Winnipeg, with Calgary, Vancouver and other cities to be added soon. American will also codeshare on Porter’s Toronto–Phoenix flights, with more cross-border routes expected.

Conversely, Porter passengers will gain smoother connections via American’s hubs in Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas–Fort Worth and Philadelphia. Upcoming codeshare options will extend Porter’s reach to U.S. leisure destinations such as Honolulu, Nashville, New Orleans, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City and San Jose.

The partnership comes at a time when cross-border travel has been under pressure. According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadians taking road trips into the U.S. (how most Canadians typically visit), fell by 34% in August 2025 compared to the same month last year, following a 37% drop in July. Air travel from Canada to the U.S. has also declined by about 25% year-over-year, marking the eighth straight month of double-digit decreases in Canadian visitation.

The U.S. Travel Association notes that Canadians most often visit Florida, California, Nevada, New York and Texas, key states where American has a strong presence. By expanding connectivity and loyalty rewards, American and Porter are positioning their partnership as a way to help reverse these declines and make cross-border travel more attractive.

The partnership also integrates with American’s AAdvantage® program. Travelers booking Porter-operated flights under the American code will earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points. Plans are underway for deeper loyalty integration, including reciprocal mileage earning and redemption opportunities.

“Canada is one of the most popular destinations for travelers, and American is excited to partner with Porter Airlines to unlock more travel options for customers,” said Anmol Bhargava, American’s Senior Vice President of Global Alliances.

Edmond Eldebs, Porter’s Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, called the deal “a true competitive alternative” for transborder travelers, adding that the agreement combines “Porter’s growing Canadian network with American’s extensive reach in the U.S. and southern destinations.”

American currently operates more than 25 peak daily flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport, more than any other U.S. carrier, alongside year-round service to Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver, and seasonal service to Halifax and Quebec City. Porter, which operates Embraer E195-E2 and Dash 8-400 aircraft, has been expanding rapidly across Canada.

Both airlines said the partnership will continue to grow, with more destinations and enhanced loyalty benefits to come.
