Baseball season is kicking off this Thursday, which means teams are heading out of their spring training facilities in Florida and Arizona to their home cities or first away games of the season. As the New York Yankees players were preparing to leave Tampa for their home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers in the Bronx, they were asked where they’d eat if they had 24 hours in NYC. The video is embedded below, and here’s the transcript with links to their choices:

  • Aaron Judge: I’m eating at 4 Charles Prime Rib, and I’m just saying, grab everything on the menu.

  • Marcus Stroman: Maybe 4 Charles just to get the burger.

  • Cody Bellinger: The Buvette, I heard, is pretty fire, so I’ll go check out The Buvette.

  • Cruz: I’m eating at a great steakhouse. I’m gonna order a Tomahawk ribeye.

  • Ian Hamilton: Monkey Bar, the whole menu.

  • Clarke Schmidt: I’m going to Emilio’s Ballato, and I’m getting the veal Antonio.

  • Ben Rice: Don Angie’s, and it’s got this sweet potato lasagna. Really good.

  • Austin Wells: I’m probably going to Don Angie’s and eating all the lasagna.

  • Anthony Volpe: Lucali, and I’m getting pizza and whatever else Mark makes.

  • Clayton Beeter: Probably eating at Lucali and getting a meat pizza.

  • Ellis: I mean, the food trucks, I’m getting the hot dog.

  • Andrew Velazquez: I’m going to Healthy Fresh in the morning for a little coffee with maybe a bacon, egg, and cheese. Um, a smoothie. Oh, I’ll probably go to Luciano’s Pizza for lunch, get a pizza with Snapple. Um, Peach Snapple. And then for dinner, probably Patricia’s. Keep it all local and Morris Park.

  • Carlos Carrasco: My god. I will be eating at TAO all day. Then I will do the fried rice combo.

  • Carlos Rodon: I’d like to try something new, some sort of Asian food. I like spicy.

  • Max Fried: I haven’t been to New York yet, so I’m still trying to figure that one out.

  • Luke Weaver: I have so much more to do when it comes to food. So, I would probably say maybe a penthouse somewhere. Maybe. Maybe we just go private chef. Maybe we just go to Judge’s place and wine and dine with his resources.

  • Jazz Chisolm: Sei Less. And it’s just because I’ve got a song called “Say Less.” And I like the backroom at Sei Less. My order would be… I’m a big pasta guy, so I’d get some type of pasta, probably penne alla vodka.

Unfortunately, I don’t make as much as these guys do—minimum wage in the majors is $760,000, and most of these guys make way more, like Aaron Judge, who makes $40 million a year, not including endorsements. Obviously, I chose the wrong career, but that’s another blog post.

All these places sound great, and I’ve been to a few of them. One I haven’t been to, but it’s now at the top of my list, is Lucali in Brooklyn since I love NY-style pizza. If Anthony Volpe says it’s his go-to place, that’s good enough for me. How about you? Do you agree with these picks, or would you go somewhere else?
