If you’re traveling with a large family, a group of friends, have lots of luggage or just want peace of mind getting to or from the airport, check out Kiwitaxi. My family and I recently used this service for our ride from the Grand Hyatt Athens to ATH airport. I had never heard of them until their PR team reached out and offered us a chance to test them out.
Our driver pulled up right on time and was dressed professionally in a suit. He was polite and friendly and the vehicle was a very nice and clean Mercedes Benz van. Our driver even made an unscheduled stop when he noticed that I was snapping pictures of the Olympic Stadium as we drove by. He pulled over safely and parked so we could take a few photos before continuing on our way. But most importantly, he was an excellent driver.
Kiwitaxi operates in over 100 countries and in more than 600 destinations, covering not just airports but also ports, train stations, city centers and even remote resort areas. However, this service is not like Uber where you can request a ride at the last minute. You need to book in advance, usually 16 hours or more, so it’s ideal for planners.
Kiwitaxi offer rides in a variety of vehicles from small cars that seat three passengers to minibuses that hold up to 19 passengers and 19 bags, making them perfect for group travel. If you’re traveling with a large family, sports team or just carrying a lot of gear, Kiwitaxi offers large enough vehicles so you don’t need to split into multiple vehicles or wrestle with public transport. It’s a great way to start or end a trip stress-free.
According to Kiwitaxi, their key focus regions right now are Europe and parts of Asia, where they’re actively expanding and where pricing is already highly competitive. While they do operate in the U.S., they acknowledge that adapting to the U.S. market is still underway with more competitive pricing planned for the future.
Their pricing is based on factors such as vehicle class, licensing and local operational costs. Unlike low-cost ride services, Kiwitaxi adheres to strict quality standards:
– No cars older than 7 years
– Only licensed transportation companies
– Professional drivers
Booking transfers can be expense but according to the company, in many regions, particularly in Europe, their prices are not only competitive but often lower than local providers offering similar or lower service levels.
On their website and app, I couldn’t find a ride for some of my trips, but I was told that if your route isn’t listed, you can reach out to their support team who may be able to open it up for you.
Kiwitaxi is not for last-minute spontaneity, but for large group travelers who like things booked and confirmed in advance, it is, in my experience, a reliable and comfortable option worth considering.
