This morning at 8am PT, per Twitter, LAX “will begin a pilot program that provides two new taxi pickup locations for guests in addition to taxi pick-ups at LAX-it. New locations are at Parking Structure 3 and Terminal 7/8.” That’s great news for LAX flyers traveling with children and/or lots of bags as well as disabled travelers. Instead of schlepping by shuttle to the LAX-it pickup area, passengers who don’t care about using a ride-share app can now grab a yellow cab from either of the two new locations. Both pickup spots can be seen on the LAX map below as yellow taxi icons:
Here’s more on the development straight from the @flyLAXairport Twitter handle:
“Parking Structure 3 pickup area is for guests arriving at Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminals 3. Terminal 7/8 pickup area is for guests arriving at Terminals 7 and 8. See map for locations of new taxi stands…Signage will be placed to direct guests arriving at Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminals 3, 7 and 8 on how to reach the additional taxi pickup locations. Signage for LAX-it shuttles and LAX-it by foot will remain up as well…LAX staff will be curbside to answer questions and direct guests to the new locations. Information on the new taxi pickup locations can also be found at https://www.flylax.com/LAX-Traffic-and-Ground-Transportation”
My first experience getting an UberX at LAX-it
On the subject of LAX taxi pickup locations, I took an UberX from LAX-it for the first time last month and found it surprisingly easy and fast (though I was by myself and didn’t have a lot of bags). Interestingly, when you order an Uber from LAX-it, instead of Uber telling you what car to look out for, it tells you to get in line and then gives you a code, which connects you to the driver. There’s really no confusion or waiting around for tardy passengers. Here are a couple of pics that I snapped:

I flew into Tom Bradley Terminal on Monday and had to wait and wait for the LAX-it shuttle. I saw several shuttles go by that were empty and asked the young man working LAX-it why they were not stopping, he said every terminal had an assigned shuttle and ours would be there shortly. When it did arrive it was already half full, we had to cram in like sardines and of course there were two older women that were disabled that they had to move luggage for to provide seats. It took three of the LAX-it workers to get each of them onto the shuttle. The shuttle was filthy, which concerned me considering the issues with the virus and this was the shuttle for the International terminal. Los Angeles continues to embarrass itself on a daily basis with it’s incompetence.
