JetBlue is making a big move in South Florida. After a few turbulent years under its previous leadership, the New York-based airline seems to be finding its footing again. The new team has been trimming unprofitable routes and betting on fresh opportunities that better align with JetBlue’s strengths in leisure travel.
The airline announced today that it will launch nine new routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The additions include a mix of Caribbean, Latin American and U.S. destinations:
- Cali, Colombia (CLO)
- Aruba (AUA)
- Cartagena, Colombia (CTG)
- Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (GCM)
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)
- New Orleans (MSY)
- Pittsburgh (PIT)
- San Pedro Sula, Honduras (SAP)
- St. Maarten (SXM)
Many of these flights will be seasonal, allowing JetBlue to redeploy aircraft in the off-season. With this expansion JetBlue will cement its position as Fort Lauderdale’s largest carrier, offering up to 113 daily departures this winter.
“As the top airline in Fort Lauderdale, with more departures than any other carrier on peak travel days, JetBlue is proud to keep raising the bar for customers in South Florida and to continue bringing them to the places they want to go,” said Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president, in a press release.
To celebrate the milestone, JetBlue is offering special fares from $113 or less from Fort Lauderdale to any of its 46 nonstop destinations this fall.
Along with the new routes, JetBlue will boost service on nine popular existing flights from Fort Lauderdale, giving travelers more flexibility to reach destinations such as:
- Atlanta (ATL)
- Hartford, Conn. (BDL)
- Boston (BOS)
- San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
- Cancún, Mexico (CUN)
- Kingston, Jamaica (KIN)
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)
- San José, Costa Rica (SJO)
- Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI)
All routes except Cali, Colombia are already available for booking on JetBlue’s website and mobile app.
