The Sunday after Thanksgiving is usually the busiest travel day of the year and this year was no exception. In fact, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) just broke their all-time record yesterday as a whopping 3,133,924 people passed through airport security. Last year, the Sunday after Thanksgiving (December 1, 2024), TSA saw 3,088,836 people pass through.
It used to be a big deal when over three million people passed through airport checkpoints, but this year there have been 10 days that have happened within the last year:
- November 30, 2025 – 3,133,924
- June 22, 2025 – 3,096,797
- December 1, 2024 – 3,088,836
- July 20, 2025 – 3,043,973
- July 6, 2025 – 3,041,954
- July 27, 2025 – 3,017,861
- October 10, 2025 – 3,017,612
- July 7, 2024 – 3,013,622
- May 23, 2025 – 3,010,183
- July 13, 2025 – 3,007,773
This shows how many people are traveling, and I think a big reason why is because younger generations are driving it thanks to low fares, Airbnb, social media (showing how easy and beautiful it is), and more.
If you are traveling, most major airports recommend arriving at least two hours before your flight. I try to avoid peak hours when possible, which are usually:
- Before 9 a.m.
- 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
- 9 p.m.-11 p.m.
TSA Tips for Hassle-Free Travel
TSA recommends a few key steps to make security checks smoother:
- Pack smart: Organize your carry-ons, check for prohibited items, and use AskTSA (text 275-872 or @AskTSA) if unsure.
- Have proper ID ready: Bring your REAL ID, passport, or another approved form of identification to avoid delays.
- Enroll in TSA PreCheck: Children 17 and under can accompany an adult with TSA PreCheck if noted on their boarding pass.
