American Airlines Passenger Bumped From First Class—Turns Out It Was for President Biden

A Minneapolis passenger tweeted yesterday that American Airlines had bumped her husband out of first class for an unknown government official. Once she boarded the plane she updated her post to say that person was no other than former President of the United States, Joe Biden.

According to the Associated Press, President Biden was in Minneapolis to attend the funeral of Minnesota lawmaker, State Representative Melissa Hortman, who was gunned down by a man posing as a police officer in a politically motivated attack.

It appears President Biden flew back to Greenville, Delaware on American Airlines to Philadelphia, which is just 22 miles away.

@thebidensinfocus shared the story on Threads and also pointed out which book he was reading, which resonated with a lot of social media users: On his way home from Minneapolis, @joebiden signed a birthday card for a woman’s daughter and took some selfies. The book he is reading is How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill.

I just happened to be flying out of Philadelphia on Saturday as well but my flight departed at 9am while Presi didn’t land until 6:18pm. I’m sure he was the first off the plane and probably didn’t even go through the terminal which is what they usually do with high profile government officials. Update: That is what happened and someone posted a video on X (see embedded below).

I would have been more than happy to be bumped from First Class for someone who served our country so valiantly and in fact, I have multiple times when I’ve given my upgrade to soldiers in uniform.
