Air Canada announced complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi for members of its Aeroplan loyalty program on select flights beginning in May 2025. The initiative will apply to routes within North America and to popular vacation destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico, often referred to as “Sun destinations.” The airline also confirmed plans to expand free Wi-Fi access to international flights by 2026.

To take advantage of the new benefit, Aeroplan members just need to ensure that their membership number is linked to their flight reservation prior to check-in. The airline says that this new offering is part of a broader strategy to enhance the in-flight experience and reward customer loyalty. Passengers who qualify will get full internet access and will also be able to use messaging services like iMessage and WhatsApp without charge during the flight.

For passengers who are not part of the Aeroplan program, Wi-Fi access will continue to be available for purchase either in advance or while onboard.

This move places Air Canada in line with a growing trend among global carriers to provide complimentary connectivity to loyalty members. Several U.S.-based airlines, including Delta and JetBlue, have recently introduced similar perks as part of their loyalty programs.

Beyond connectivity, Air Canada continues to promote its in-flight entertainment offerings as a key part of its onboard service. The airline currently provides access to more than 2,500 hours of content through its entertainment system, including a wide range of movies, television shows, music, podcasts and live TV.

As part of its entertainment lineup, Air Canada has signed a content partnership with Apple TV+, becoming the first Canadian airline to offer the streaming platform’s original content onboard. Available titles include popular series such as Ted Lasso, Severance and Foundation. The partnership adds to the airline’s efforts to differentiate its in-flight experience and appeal to tech-savvy travelers.

Passengers flying on certain domestic and U.S. routes will also have access to live television channels such as Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet East. This allows travelers to watch live sports events and stay updated with breaking news during their flight, a rarity among most North American carriers.

In terms of onboard power options, Air Canada has outfitted all seats across its cabins with USB charging ports. Passengers flying in Business Class and Air Canada Signature Class also have access to standard electrical outlets. In select Economy Class rows, additional charging options are available to help travelers keep their devices powered throughout the flight.

Connecting to onboard Wi-Fi requires passengers to switch devices to airplane mode, join the “ACWiFi.com” network, and open a browser to complete the login at acwifi.com. Access to the airline’s website and mobile app remains free for all passengers, regardless of Wi-Fi purchase or Aeroplan status.

Air Canada says it is continuing to expand the number of aircraft equipped with onboard Wi-Fi as part of its long-term investment in technology and passenger comfort. While the service is currently available on select aircraft, the airline is steadily working toward fleet-wide coverage in the coming years.

The company frames the new Wi-Fi benefit as part of a larger push to modernize the customer experience, combining entertainment, connectivity and convenience, as digital expectations rise among air travelers.
