Each airline has a different procedure for dealing with items left behind on an airplane or in their gate areas. In general, most airlines suggest you call their central reservation number and get the local contact numbers for the airports you were in and/or were going to. A few airlines post specific contact information and advice for tracking lost items on their websites:


Alaska Airlines: Call (800) 252-7522 to get local contact numbers or Central Baggage Claim at (206) 988-9797. Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT., Monday-Friday

American Airlines: Call (800) 535-5225 to get the number for the appropriate local Lost and Found departments

Continental Airlines: Call (800) 525-0280 to get the local airport contact numbers

Delta Airlines: Call (800) 221-1212 for local contact numbers or Baggage Services at (800) 325-8224. You can also e-mail them at: bsc.atl655@delta.com to describe your lost item

Jet Blue: Call (800) 538-2583 to get local contact numbers

Northwest Airlines: (800) 225-2525 to get a contact number at the local airports

Southwest: Call the Central Lost & Found office at (214) 792-5598 during business hours.

US Airways: Call (800) 428-4322 for a local contact number

United Airlines: Call Baggage Services/Lost & Found at (800) 221-6903
