La Compagnie is adding another European destination to its small transatlantic network. The French all-business-class airline announced that it plans to begin nonstop flights between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) in spring 2027.
The airline says it will operate up to five flights a week during the summer season using an Airbus A321neo LR. Exact schedule details will vary, but tickets are now on sale.
According to La Compagnie, it will be the only airline offering nonstop flights between New York and Düsseldorf when the service begins.
That would make the route particularly useful for business travelers headed to Düsseldorf and the surrounding Rhine-Ruhr region. North Rhine-Westphalia is Germany’s most populous state and a major business and industrial center. Düsseldorf is also a major trade-show destination, so there’s a logical corporate market for a business-class-only airline.
The location could be useful for some leisure travelers as well. Düsseldorf provides access to Germany’s Rhine region and is relatively close to both the Netherlands and Belgium.
What it’s like to fly La Compagnie
La Compagnie isn’t a traditional airline with separate economy, premium economy and business-class cabins. Its Airbus A321neos have just 76 seats, all of them business class, arranged in a 2-2 configuration. The seats convert into fully flat beds.
The airline also includes Wi-Fi, checked baggage and airport lounge access. Düsseldorf passengers will have access to the DUS Sky Lounge in Pier C, while passengers departing Newark can use La Compagnie’s Lounge&Co.
La Compagnie currently flies from Newark to Paris Orly, Milan Malpensa and Nice Côte d’Azur. Nice has traditionally been a seasonal route, although the airline recently announced that it is extending New York-Nice service into the winter season.
The Düsseldorf expansion coincides with plans to grow the airline’s fleet. La Compagnie expects to receive a third Airbus A321neo LR in 2027 and a fourth aircraft, an Airbus A321neo XLR, in 2028.
One thing travelers should keep in mind
I’ve written about La Compagnie before, including some of the attractive business-class fares the airline occasionally offers. I’ve never personally flown the airline, and I’ve heard mixed reports from travelers.
The biggest issue I would consider isn’t necessarily the onboard product but the airline’s size and limited schedule.
With up to five Düsseldorf flights per week rather than multiple flights every day, passengers won’t have the same recovery options they might have when flying a large airline with numerous aircraft and daily departures. If a flight is canceled because of a mechanical problem or another operational issue, getting passengers on another La Compagnie flight could potentially take longer.
That’s something worth considering if you’re traveling for a wedding, cruise, important meeting or another event where arriving on a particular day is critical. Building some extra time into the itinerary — or having a backup plan — may be prudent.
On the other hand, travelers with flexible schedules may find La Compagnie’s unusual model appealing, particularly if fares are substantially lower than business-class tickets on larger airlines.
The new Düsseldorf route is another step in La Compagnie’s gradual expansion beyond its original New York-Paris operation. The carrier added Nice in 2019 and Milan in 2022, and Düsseldorf will give it a fourth European destination from Newark.
Flights are scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with service operating up to five times weekly during the summer season. Tickets are available through La Compagnie, its call center and travel advisors.
