Featuring a stunning top-to-bottom transformation, VEA Newport Beach blends contemporary sophistication with effortless California style. As summer temperatures climb, trade the oppressive inland heat for a cool ocean breeze, best enjoyed from a private balcony – atop emerald fairways, with an elevated panorama, overlooking Balboa Island and Newport Harbor coastline.
Tucked beside upscale shopping mecca Fashion Island, the resort welcomes guests with swaying palms and a dramatic raining oculus fountain, setting a serene tone on arrival. Inside, the airy lobby blurs the line between indoors and out, with expansive glass walls framing views of the pool golf course, and the Pacific Ocean beyond. The space is filled with warm wood accents, coastal-inspired design elements, curated artwork, and comfortable lounge seating that immediately invites you to slow down and soak in the scenery. The lobby’s grand pink and white floral displays of orchids and hydrangea continue to draw you in with awe.
Rather than feeling formal, the atmosphere is effortless SoCal luxe. Guests gather over cappuccinos at the European-style café in the morning, sip cocktails on the outdoor lounge in the afternoon, and linger around fire pits as the sun sets over Newport Beach.
Since the 85-foot-long pool, with cabanas and loud music, was crowded and lively on a Sunday, we opted to spend time in our tower room with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. While the tower suites are quite a long walk from the lobby and rooms might be considered smaller than average, a calming palette of soft sand, driftwood gray, and ocean blues creates an upscale, serene retreat. Once the curtains are drawn and the morning marine layer burns off, the room is flooded with sunny natural light.
After a celebratory summer night or a day at the beach, a quiet night’s sleep is welcome and easy – with crisp white bedding, comfy Frette robes, a plush pillow-top mattress, down comforter, and blackout drapes for uninterrupted rest.
Nespresso coffee makers, spa-inspired bathrooms, and thoughtfully designed furnishings elevate the experience. Private balconies in many tower rooms encourage guests to linger over a morning coffee or sunset cocktail while soaking in the ocean breeze. Select premium accommodations even feature outdoor fire pits, while Penthouses and Cosmopolitan Retreats (2-4 bedrooms with fully equipped kitchen) include expansive living areas, custom interiors, and panoramic coastal views.
Bathrooms have great water pressure with handheld and rainfall shower options, Molton Brown bath products and a sliding barn door covering a window into the bedroom, in case you want natural light and an ocean view from the shower.
Guests can connect over drinks at the secret lobby lounge “reveal” offering an extensive list of expertly crafted classic cocktails – the Sidecar, Daiquiri, Old Fashioned, Penicillin, Sazerac, Vesper, Negroni, Manhattan and more. The evening and late-night destination also dishes out classic bar bites with a VEA twist – like elevated takes on spiced popcorn, deviled eggs, chicken tenders and fries.
The VIEW Restaurant & Lounge sits at the heart of the hotel, connected to a lanai by collapsible glass doors that seamlessly blend indoors and out featuring firepits, cozy seating, live music, abundant greenery, and ocean and golf course views. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner service and late-night offerings are available. Cuisine is coastal Californian with a Mediterranean perspective.
The Edge Pool & Bar beyond the lobby overlooks the Newport Beach Country Club, with a menu of California-inspired favorites, including local fresh seafood, craft beers, and signature cocktails.
