Taipei-based China Airlines is Taiwan’s largest airline. The carrier has been serving North America since the 1970s with the Boeing 747. Most recently, China Airlines celebrated the arrival of the Boeing 777-300ER for the Taiwan Taoyuan-Los Angeles route in December 2014. Eastern elegance is seen in the new fleet.

The airline has placed an importance on showcasing Taiwan’s culture with new branding and a re-design of the cabin interiors. Taiwanese architect Ray Chen is chief designer for the new branding and designing of the cabin interiors. The cabins have a simplistic beauty that we found quite striking.

We took a closer look at the sleek new jets and here are some of the highlights.

Premium Business

The business class cabin has 40 seats in a 1 x 2 x 1 herringbone arrangement that makes them accessible yet private at the same time. Passengers have full-flat 78-inch seats that can be easily adjusted to their preferred angle.

This cabin is equipped with 18-inch screens that have more than 100 selected shows. Each velvet-upholstered seat has a cabinet for personal belongings, personal mini bar, USB, power outlet and an adjustable lamp. The airline also has a new amenity kit with Acca Kappa skin care products.

Seat Chat & Wi-Fi
The 18-inch touchscreens utilize Seat Chat, which allows you to write to passengers in other seats on the airplane. The social networking share feature also enables passengers to share their favorite music, movies, or games with friends on the flight. Wi-Fi fees start at USD$11.95 for one hour, USD$16.95 for three hours, and USD$21.95 for 24 hours.

Sky Lounge

The Sky Lounge is a space in the middle of the premium business cabin that integrates Eastern and Western culture and philosophy. It has a tea-tasting area (offering six varieties of Taiwanese tea, nuts and snacks), a coffee area with Taiwanese-grown ground coffee, and a bar with wine, beer, cocktails and tapas. Bookshelves supply periodicals and books in both Chinese and English.

Premium Economy

The 62 seats that make up the premium economy cabin come in a 2 x 4 x 2 layout and offer more than 39 inches of seat pitch and 19 inches of width, giving the traveler significantly more space than standard economy with a modest increase in cost. The airline claims that compared with similar cabin classes, China Airlines’ premium economy class features the world’s largest screen at 12 inches.

Economy & Family Couch

In economy class, seatbacks are thinner and recline 120 degrees, giving passengers more legroom and comfort. The Family Couch could be the coolest feature! The first 10 rows in economy can be converted into a single lie-flat sofa bed for one adult and two small children (or two adults and one child) by reclining the seats and raising the footrests and armrests, then adding a mattress pad and some blankets and pillows.

As one of SkyTeam airline alliance’s 20 members, China Airlines offers passengers access to an extensive global network of more than 15,723 daily flights to 1,064 destinations in 178 countries. For more information on China Airlines and the 777-300ER, visit wow.china-airlines.com.
