Short bio: Stephanie Be is a California girl who has lived in Rio, Barcelona, and Sydney. A UCLA grad, she gave up corporate work to fulfill her calling as a writer. A lover of all things spontaneous, she has a fervent passion for travel, culture, and lifestyle. A serial entrepreneur and philanthropist, Stephanie is a Millennial on a mission: turning dreams into goals. Frolic with her around the globe by following her on Instagram or Twitter. If you have no interest in the Sangria Familia, I mean Sagrada Familia, you’re probably not any fun anyways.

Languages spoken: English, Spanish, Portuguese (kind of!).

How often do you fly? In the last year, dozens—however, I often opt for a charter bus. Depends on the continent!

How many countries have you been to? A shy twenty-four, but I’m just getting started!

How many continents have you been to? Six, but I wouldn’t mind trading the Sunshine State for a view of Antarctica.

Earliest travel memory: Probably Mexico or Hawaii with the family as a kid.

Favorite American city: San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles—in that order.

Favorite international city: Sydney, but I lived there for eight months, so I’m biased. Barcelona, Chiang Mai, and Rio also rock my socks.

Least favorite country: Can you have a least favorite country?

Favorite World Heritage Site: Iguazu Falls, Whitsundays’ Whitehaven National Park, Grand Canyon, Giant’s Causeway, the Great Barrier Reef, and Ha Long Bay. Does the Amazon Jungle count? I’m not very good at this “favorite” game

Favorite airline: I’ve always had a great experience with Qantas, Air Berlin and British Airways. I refuse to fly Jet Star or United anymore and it takes a lot to defer me from a flight.

Favorite aircraft type: The kind that serves wine and ice cream.

Aisle or window: Window—I must to snap some aerial photos and sneak in a nap.

Favorite airport lounge: None that is particularly memorable.

Favorite U.S. airport: LAX because it involves my mom and dad greeting me or seeing me off.

Favorite international airport: Singapore’s Changi Airport. Their restrooms are nicer than most hotels’!

Favorite hotel: SLS Beverly Hills and the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

Favorite cruise line: I’ve never been on a cruise. However, sailing the Whitsunday Islands on Avatar was one of my top experiences of all time.

Favorite travel credit card: Bank of America Travel Rewards.

Favorite island: Ibiza and Australia.

Favorite beach: Whitehaven Beach or Hvar, Croatia.

Favorite fancy restaurant: Chi Cha Por Gaston Acurio, Lima, Peru.

Favorite hole-in-the-wall: Go to Ensenada in Baja Mexico, and have ceviche at one of the carts along the beach.

Favorite bar: Opium del Mar, Barcelona.

Favorite fruit: Mango :)

Favorite food: Pad Thai, Mexican fish tacos, ceviche, sushi, guacamole, and hearty green salads. Can I also say ice cream, frozen yogurt, and gelato?

Least favorite food: I’m no fun—I’m a pescatarian and stay clear of non-fish meats.

Craziest thing you’ve eaten: I took video of my friend eating cockroaches and grasshoppers in Thailand—that’s as crazy as I’ll get.

Drink of choice (in the air and on the ground): Water. Skinny-flat mocha latte with honey instead of sugar. Espresso Martini.

Right now I am reading: “Insider Journalism Secrets” by James Swanwick.

Top 3 favorite travel newsletters/magazines/blogs: JohnnyJet.com is a given! I’m also biased towards Huffington Post Travel as my colleagues have some great content :)

Favorite travel website(s)—besides JohnnyJet.com, of course! Skyscanner, TravelBoxe, and Google (Google Translate, Google Maps, Google Flights, Google Search!) See more in my post Best Travel Apps and Website for Planning Your Trip Abroad.

5 things you bring on a plane: Socks (I always wear heels at the airport to create extra space in my carry on). Post cards to write during the flight. Music and headphones. MacBook to get some work done! Camera and iPhone.

What do you always seem to forget? My toothbrush! I always have to buy another.

What do you like least about travel? Missing my family and friends. Meeting fantastic people and knowing I can’t see them often.

What do you want your loved one to buy you from an airport Duty Free store? Reality check: Almost everything except for alcohol is more expensive at airport stores. American brands are most affordable in America; however, if I was from another country, I would probably buy everything duty-free.

Favorite travel app(s): Airbnb, XE Currency, Instagram, WhatsApp, Google Maps.

Most embarrassing travel moment: I mixed up my currencies in London, and showed up to the Wireless Music Festival with Euros instead of pounds. My friend and I didn’t have our credit cards with us because we were only using cash at the festival. We had to split the cash of one for two for the day!

Worst travel moment: A delayed flight to Dublin landed us in the middle of the night, without accommodation—everything was sold out, and it was a 4 am disaster!

What’s your dream destination? I’d love to spend some time on an African safari and experience Yacht Week.

Favorite travel charity: Women for Women.

Best travel tip: People and places are always changing. Try to travel as much as you can now—the opportunity may not be there in the future. Above all, be considerate—you might be passing by, but it’s someone’s home. What can you do for the place and culture for which you visit?
